CRJS - 400. CRJS Capstone I

1 credit(s)
The Capstone, intended to represent a culmination of the students’ CRJS education, is a student-centered course, conducted in seminar format, with students expected to take an active role in discussing the history and development of the American criminal justice system and restorative justice in relation to their specific track. It involves an independent research project, dependent on data collection and analysis, which will continue to expand students’ understanding of what justice looks like and what we can imagine it to be. Specifically, the Capstone requires enrollment in two classes, across two semesters. The first semester of the Capstone, a one-credit course taken in the spring of junior year, explores techniques for research not yet covered in other classes, credentialing for conducting surveys as per the BOI, and the beginnings of research idea formulation. The second semester, worth three credits and taken during the fall of senior year is when students will be conducting deep research, writing their Capstones, and meeting regularly with Capstone advisors. This course can be repeated for credit.
