WRIT - 361. Intermediate Fiction Writing

3 credit(s)
Intermediate Fiction Writing is intended for students who have successfully completed Writing Short Fiction and want to continue to study and write short stories. This course builds upon the fiction writing, reading, and editing skills students learned in Writing Short Fiction. In this course, we will focus on both the production of new work and the careful and thorough work that goes into a successful revision. Students will also read and study contemporary literary journals that publish short stories. By the end of the semester, students will have two fully revised and polished stories that can be submitted to literary journals and will also understand the process of submitting creative writing to journals. In this course, students will develop skills as editors for their own work, so if they continue writing after the semester ends, they will be able to evaluate their writing and figure out effective revision strategies.
