Students in the Management Major who select the Strategic Human Resource Management Track will learn the knowledge and skills necessary for managing an organization’s human resources to achieve its strategic objectives. Students develop an understanding of the various equal employment opportunity laws and learn best practices to define job requirements, seek and hire qualified and diverse candidates, and develop new employees. Students can communicate the advantages and disadvantages of various pay and benefit systems for attracting and retaining diverse individuals, identify systems and practices to reduce employee turnover, and use employee development systems to facilitate training and performance management. Students completing this track understand how habits, norms, rules, roles, rituals, symbols, and stories influence individual and group behavior in organizations; recognize when and where these forces create barriers to organizational success, and prescribe actions that can create desired change over time.
