Students pursuing the Adolescence Education: English dual major must complete the requirements for the English, B.A. detailed below and the requirements for the Adolescence Education: English, B.A. major. Please see the Education Department for more information.
It is the responsibility of the student to understand and fulfill the various requirements of Siena College, the English Department, Education Department, and the state to which they plan to apply for teacher certification. English majors seeking initial teaching certification in grades 7-12 will need to maintain at least a 3.15 in English as well as an Education and overall GPA of 3.0. In addition, only courses with a grade of C- or above are acceptable toward meeting content core and pedagogical core requirements.
Requirements for the English, B.A. - Education Track
Students may apply either one 200-level WRIT course toward the completion of the 200-level ENGL requirement OR one 300-level WRIT course toward the completion of a 300-level and above ENGL requirement. ENGL-ED dual majors may not apply any of their required WRIT courses (WRIT 220 and WRIT 240) toward the major. Further, if a student is pursuing a Writing and Communications minor, they may not apply the same WRIT course to both the minor and the major.
