Dr. Jennifer H. Dorsey, Director
The Certificate Program in Public History is an interdisciplinary program that combines history, creative arts, and business to prepare students for careers in public and applied history as practiced by museum professionals, historical interpreters, historic preservationists, corporate historians, and others. It is open to any major and combines theory with hands-on experience, culminating in an intensive capstone internship that asks students to combine theory with practice under the guidance of a public history professional. Advising is key to success in this program, as students exploring careers that require advanced degrees such as archaeology, historic preservation, documentary film-making, or conservation may require more specialized coursework.
