The Mathematics Department, following the recommendations by the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics of the Mathematical Association of America, aims to develop students’ problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and communication skills. Students are introduced to the language of mathematics, learn to formulate and solve mathematical problems, and develop familiarity with modern mathematical techniques. Additionally, the breadth of program offerings, faculty expertise, and courses enable students to pursue a multitude of career goals.
Our students are well-prepared to choose graduate studies, secondary teaching certification, or enter the workforce in fields such as finance and industry directly. Our faculty engages students through teaching and research. Student-faculty research activities include peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations at domestic and international venues.
Students can earn college credit for either Calculus I (MATH 110) or Calculus I and Calculus II (MATH 120) by scoring a four or a five on the Advanced Placement (AP) examinations.
Education Certification: Siena mathematics and applied mathematics majors seeking initial teaching certification (grades 7-12) may enroll in the Education Dual Major program. Interested students can contact the Education Department for further information.
