Lucas Tucker, Ph.D., Director

Forensic science is an interdisciplinary field which applies the scientific method to legal matters. This minor provides broad exposure to concepts and skills relevant to the field and a fundamental background in the history and principles which support these scientific techniques. The minor requires a minimum of 19 credit hours and examines fundamental components of forensic detection, resolution, and prosecution.

The forensic science minor is designed to complement a broad variety of majors across campus, allowing both non-science and science majors to successfully complete the requirements. Students who complete this minor will be exposed to the types of techniques employed to collect, preserve, and analyze evidence and the scientific instrumentation used to characterize this evidence. Successful completion of the minor will expand the student’s knowledge of the field, attention to detail, analytical thinking, scientific and mathematical skill, understanding of legal process, and communication skills.
