The Department of Accounting at Siena College is committed to academic excellence and delivers a dynamic, high-impact education rooted in academic rigor, ethical leadership, and real-world relevance. We prepare students not only to meet the demands of today’s business environment but to lead and shape the future of the accounting profession. Through a powerful combination of expert faculty, experiential learning opportunities, and a values-driven approach, our graduates emerge with the skills, confidence, and integrity needed to thrive in a wide range of accounting and business roles.

Accounting majors at Siena receive a well-rounded education that blends advanced coursework in accounting and taxation with meaningful, hands-on experiences. Our curriculum emphasizes technical proficiency, ethical decision-making, and adaptability in today’s technology-driven workplace-skills that employers value and that set our students apart. We also help students understand that accounting is more than numbers: it’s a profession rooted in trust, responsibility, and the power to make a positive impact on organizations and society.

Graduates of Siena’s Accounting program are well-prepared for careers in public and corporate accounting, government, and the not-for-profit sector. Many continue on to our M.S. in Accounting program, which satisfies New York State’s educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam. Students are also prepared to pursue respected professional certifications, including the CMA (Certified Management Accountant), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), and CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager). Supported by dedicated faculty and a values-based education, Siena accounting students graduate ready to succeed-and lead-with purpose.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Accounting Department is to prepare students for entry-level accounting and business positions, subsequent career growth, and continuing intellectual and professional development. The department provides a challenging and intellectually stimulating learning environment that emphasizes the analytical, communication, technological and teamwork skills necessary to succeed in the current dynamic business environment. The integration of accounting theory and practice with the University’s liberal arts and Franciscan traditions enables students to become responsible and contributing members of society.
