Jennifer Dorsey, Director of Siena University’s McCormick Center for the Study of the American Revolution

The Certificate in Revolutionary Era Studies (CRES) is open to all students who are interested in the history and legacy of the American Revolution. This program blends multidisciplinary academic study with research, internships, and service learning in Capital Region historic sites. Students will complete approved coursework and a community-based internship relevant to the study of the American Revolution. This program is designed to be flexible and personalized. Students will work closely with the program director for course planning and to learn more about experiential learning opportunities tailored to their specific interests in the era of the American Revolution.

CRES students are also encouraged to “study abroad” with the National Institute of American History and Democracy’s Collegiate Program in Early American History, Material Culture, and Museum Studies. Participating students will reside at the College of William & Mary, the second oldest college in the United States, and complete 15 credit hours of field work in museum studies and public history. Participating students may also complete an internship at Colonial Williamsburg, the reconstructed colonial capitol of Virginia and largest living history museum in the world. Students may apply up to 9 credits earned through this program toward the CRES certificate.

Interested students should consult the program director for guidance on course planning and to learn more about available experiential learning opportunities.
