ITAL - 027. Italian Cinema

In this course students will explore the creative influences that impacted the development of the art of Italian Cinema and its subsequent, immense effect on film around the world. A selection of iconic Italian films and key directors will be studied from an aesthetic point of view and analyzed as a visual reflection of the social, political, economic, and cultural developments that occurred in Italy since the early 20th century. Creative, stylistic, and artistic aspects to be examined are: directing styles, themes, literary influences, lighting effects, costume design, editing, illustration, original music scores, iconic actors, and numerous innovative production techniques. The course will be taught in English. All films will be subtitled.
