BIOL - 470. Genomics and Bioinformatics 3 credit(s) This course will cover the theories explaining the function and evolution of genomes alongside hands-on application of the computational tools biologists use to understand them. Topics covered include DNA sequencing, genome assembly, transcriptomics, gene annotation, genome evolution, and functional genomics. Various bioinformatic tools and online databases will be used, with an emphasis on hands-on manipulation and analysis of real genomic datasets. As part of this class, students will conduct independent genomic research projects.
