3 credit(s) This introductory course explores the key concepts and theories that address the cultural, social, and economic significance of analog and digital games. Students will gain a foundation in the history of game engines, the business economics of the game industry, and the function of game marketing and design. Students will learn about the structure of game development teams and career possibilities. Students will practice the process of game building from conception to design to prototyping through class projects and assignments. These projects include hands-on practice with paper prototypes, 2D animation, and the game engine Unreal. Knowledge of computer programming is not required.
