PHIL - 103. Reason and Argument

3 credit(s)
What makes one argument sound and another fallacious? What makes one inference reasonable and another unreasonable? Philosophers employ a variety of methods for studying argument and inference, and this course will introduce students to some of these methods. Students will leave the course with a better understanding of the human capacity to reason, as well as the nature and standards of argumentation. Students will also develop strong critical thinking skills, which can be applied to a variety of personal, intellectual, and academic contexts. These contexts include the domain of ethics, as students will be introduced to the conceptual foundations of ethics and the basics of moral reasoning.
