EDUC - 385. Teaching & Learning in Early Adolescence

This course will address the development and application of diverse instructional strategies in early adolescence education, including interdisciplinary teaching and learning, teaming, and cooperative learning to maximize student learning. Students will examine philosophy, curricula, and pedagogies (including methods and materials) appropriate for early adolescence education in New York State. Successful middle-level educational programs, which focus on and promote the intellectual and personal development of the early adolescent, will be examined. [NOTE: Completing this course and EDUC360 will fulfill the requirements to add a middle-level extension onto an initial certification. Students in an Adolescence Teacher Preparation Program may use this course combination to add a grades 5-6 extension onto their certification. Students in the Early Childhood/Childhood Teacher Preparation Program who have at least 30 credits in a content area may use this course combination to add a grades 7-9 extension onto their certification.] Offered every Spring.
