EDUC - 360. Early Adolescence and Middle School Learners

3 credit(s)
Students will inquire into early adolescent development by exploring accounts of diverse adolescent school experiences. Students will explore the nature of adolescent learners through analyses of narrative, empirical, and theoretical knowledge from varying perspectives. Students will also examine how cultural canons about adolescence influence the many ways young people live out their lives in school, with an emphasis on middle school years. The primary focus of this course will be on the nature, needs, and characteristics of early adolescent learners. [NOTE: Completing this course and EDUC385 will fulfill the requirements to add a middle-level extension onto an initial certification. Students in an Adolescence Teacher Preparation Program may use this course combination to add a grades 5-6 extension onto their certification. Students in the Early Childhood/Childhood Teacher Preparation Program who have at least 30 credits in a content area may use this course combination to add a grades 7-9 extension onto their certification.]
