ACCT - 466. CARES Leadership Lab

This course is designed to give the students the opportunity to integrate and apply the knowledge, skills and concepts learned in the Criminal Justice Studies program through the Center for Antifraud Resources and Examination Services (CARES). The course places students in leadership roles where they guide students taking Acct 465, Financial Forensics Lab. Students will explore the critical role of leadership in achieving objectives in financial forensic investigations. Students will also have the opportunity to reflect on and develop their own leadership skills. Finally, students must keep a reflective journal while participating in the course, where they log daily responsibilities, achievements, challenges, newly discovered strengths, weaknesses, passions and dislikes. The course embodies the precepts of restorative justice and reparation of the harm done to the victim(s), emphasizes the integration of an analytics minded approach to allegations of financial wrongdoing, and provides experiential collaboration with members of the legal community and law enforcement, alleged victims, and financial crime investigators.  Permission of instructor based on the instructor’s assessment of the student’s ability to be adaptable, dependable, professional, a team player and an effective communicator.
