MGMT - 237. Franciscan Leadership 3 credit(s) This co-curricular interdisciplinary course develops the leadership potential of students through the lens of Francis and Clare of Assisi, Bernardine of Siena and the alternative vision of the world they articulated and the movement they inspired. The course empowers students with the knowledge and values of the Franciscan tradition to lead, serve and succeed in their careers, communities and lives. This course explores leadership through the vision and values of Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan Intellectual Tradition and the impact Franciscan thought had on medieval art (Giotto, Cimabue, Michelangelo), literature (Dante), theology /philosophy (Bonaventure, John Duns Scotus), Science (Roger Bacon, William of Ockham) ethics/ economics (Bernadine of Siena, Luca Pacioli). In addition, the course explores Siena’s Catholic Identity and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition which finds God in all things. Students will consider how the wisdom of these traditions might inform their leadership potential to think critically and creatively to engage the questions and issues of today’s complex and globalized world. Study of the Tradition will be complemented and deepened by walking in the footsteps of Francis & Clare of Assisi, Bernardine of Siena, the apostles and others; culminating with a pilgrimage to Franciscan Italy.
