CSIS - 207. Exploring Data, Cybersecurity, & Networking

3 credit(s)
This course is an introduction to three important topics in computer science - networking, cybersecurity, and data science. The first unit on data science covers framing of data problems, libraries for visualizing data sets, prediction based on sampling data, societal impact, and laws and regulations on digital data. The second unit on networking covers hardware, software, communication protocols, packet routing, and troubleshooting connectivity problems. The third unit on cybersecurity covers the security triad, encryption, types of attacks, how to protect systems and data, and how to respond to incidents. Course concepts are reinforced through hands-on programming experiences. An understanding of these three concept areas is required for teaching secondary computer science in New York State.
