PHIL - 101. Philosophy and the Human Being

3 credit(s)
This course will introduce students to some of the deepest questions about human nature and the human condition, especially questions about the nature of knowledge and understanding, the nature of choice and identity, the nature of action and excellence, and the nature of morality and virtue. This course takes a traditional approach to these questions, focusing on some of the central figures and texts that shape both the history of philosophy and the landscape of contemporary philosophy. Students will learn how to read philosophical writing, to critically engage with diverse positions and arguments, to construct and defend their own positions on a variety of philosophical issues, and the ability to apply those positions to their own lives.
