CLSS - 220. Greek Literature in Translation 3 credit(s) A survey of the masterpieces of Greek literature in English translations from the 8th century B.C. to the Roman period, which may include selections from the Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, Hesiod’s Theogony and Work and Days, the tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, the histories of Herodotus and Thucydides, the comedies of Aristophanes and Menander, the poetry of Archilochus, Sappho, Pindar, Callimachus, and Theocritus, the works of Plato and Aristotle, the oratory of Demosthenes and Lysias, the works of the New Testament, and the biographies of Plutarch.
