Public Policy and Economics Concentration

There are two 5-course Economics Concentrations available for students who wish to pursue their studies in the field of Economics: (a) Economic Theory and Practice and (b) Public Policy and Economics. Students who are interested in both the Economic Theory and Practice and Public Policy and Economics concentrations should strongly consider choosing Economics as their major.

This concentration explores current economic issues, and helps students understand and critique competing policy proposals designed to address these issues. There is an emphasis placed on the use of data, statistical analysis, and model application in evaluating policy. The critical thinking skills that students acquire are applicable to careers in public policy, Not-for-Profit and international development, banking and finance, education, communications, and data analytics. It is also preparation for further graduate training in a variety of disciplines such as economics, law, management, marketing, finance, public policy, and public health. ECON-300 topics courses may be substituted at the discretion of the department chair.
