The mission of the American Studies Program at Siena College is to introduce students to the diversity of the American experience and the diversity of academic engagement. Majors and minors choose relevant courses from multiple academic areas such as American history, literature, art history, theatre, music, sociology, philosophy, economics, film, religion, and political science. This interdisciplinary approach is introduced in AMST 250  The American Dream and capped by AMST 451   American Studies Capstone. Majors gain mastery over varied types of evidence and analysis and produce integrative forms of presentation. The breadth of American Studies equips majors and minors to nimbly respond to a changing world and prepares them for multiple career paths in business, law, politics, education, nonprofits, the arts, and more. American Studies majors may also apply to the Teacher Preparation program. Understanding both the achievements and the challenges of the American experience, majors and minors in American Studies leave Siena equipped to build their own future as well as a more just and peaceable world.
