RELG - 260. Comparative Religious Ethics

An introduction to ethical perspectives and practices in western, eastern and indigenous religious traditions, highlighting the diversity within and among them. Taking into consideration historical and cultural factors, students will compare and contrast different religious understandings of personhood; individual and communal well-being; moral discernment; virtues, vices and the development of character; relational obligations; and commitments to the common good as these bear on pressing contemporary issues. The issues addressed in this course include social justice; the environment; medical ethics; crime and restorative justice; and sexual relationships, marriage and family.

Prerequisite(s): RELG 101 or RELG 121 or RELG 141 or RELG 181
