3 credit(s) An introduction to the discipline of Religious Studies through an examination of the nature of religious experience, its relation to human understandings of the Sacred, and its expressions in human history and culture. These themes will be concretely illustrated through examples drawn from such religious traditions as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Confucianism. Contemporary forms of religious experience will be emphasized.
