Computer Science, B.S.

CIP Code: 11.0101

HEGIS Code: 0701

The Computer Science program at Siena College is based on the curricular guidelines of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Beginning with the first course, students participate in hands-on computing in a small-class environment, working to develop their abilities to solve problems, think critically, and communicate clearly.

Many courses throughout the degree program include a lab component. The laboratory experience is an essential component of learning computer science because it provides opportunities to practice skills learned in the classroom with immediate feedback and guidance from the faculty. Lab exercises are often done in pairs or small groups, allowing students to develop teamwork skills.

The heart of the computer science program is its dedicated faculty. The large number of full-time faculty members allows the department to maintain a breadth of expertise across many different specialties within the discipline. More importantly, faculty are selected primarily for their ability to teach - to effectively and engagingly pass on this knowledge to the students. Faculty members also pride themselves on their availability, both in and out of the classroom.

Computer science students have many options for internships, research projects, and service opportunities. Graduates from the program are in high demand, with employers routinely lauding our alumni not only for technical expertise but especially for “people skills” such as communication and teamwork.
