Astrophysics is the application of physical principles to observations of astronomical phenomena, with the goal of improving our understanding of the properties, fate, and evolution of the universe and everything it contains. Students majoring in astrophysics gain the same critical thinking, quantitative problem-solving, computational data science, and communication skills of a physics major, as well as specialized knowledge of astronomical phenomena and their theoretical underpinnings. Astrophysics majors are well-prepared to continue their studies in graduate school in astronomy, physics, or a related field, or to enter the STEM workforce directly.

Students must also complete an independent capstone research project. This project must be conducted as part of the following courses for a minimum of 2 credits total:


Astrophysics Auxiliary (31 credits):
