The School of Business core curriculum provides an overview of critical business disciplines including accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing and essential quantitative analysis skills. The Business (Business Concentration) major enables students to gain valuable depth in two of these critical business subjects. In addition to the Pre-Business Foundation and Skills courses and the Business core, students are required to select at least two concentrations (15 credits each) from a broad range of business disciplines. This major is designed for students whose interests and career goals span two business disciplines. The requirements for each concentration are detailed below. The specific courses in these concentrations should not permit more than two overlapping courses.

The 20 concentrations are:

Interdisciplinary

  1. International Business
  2. Entrepreneurship
  3. Strategic Decision Making Concentration

Accounting

  1. Accounting Theory and Foundations
  2. Not-for-Profit and Governmental Accounting

Economics

  2. Public Policy and Economics

Students in the Business Major select two concentrations from different disciplines. Students interested in two concentrations in one discipline are encouraged to major in that discipline and earn the concentration in addition to major.

In the rare situation where a specific course (or courses) in the concentrations overlap, additional business electives will need to be taken to substitute for the overlapping course(s) between the concentrations. The business electives will be selected after consultation with an academic advisor to determine the best mix of courses to prepare the student for their career and educational goals. The elective(s) must be in the same discipline as the overlapping class be at the 300 level or greater, and may not be part of the Pre-business Foundation and Skills or Business Core Classes.

Similar to a minor, students can major in a field from the Schools of Liberal Arts or Science and also pursue a concentration. Additionally, School of Business students majoring in something other than the BS in Business are encouraged to pursue concentrations to complement their degree.

Requirements for the Major, B.S. in Business (Business Concentration) (30 credits):

  • Concentration 1: 15 credit(s)
  • Concentration 2: 15 credit(s)
