Requirements for the Major, B.A. in History with Certificate in Social Studies Teaching (39 credits):


History majors seeking initial teaching certification in grades 7-12 will need to maintain at least a 3.1 in History as well as an overall GPA of 2.9.

Select from courses numbered between 200 - 495 level:


  • 3 credits in European History (HEUR) 3 credit(s)
  • 6 credits in non-Western History (HNW) 6 credit(s)
  • 3 credits in American History (HAM) 3 credit(s)

History Electives (HIST 300 - 495): 3 credit(s)


Auxiliary (15 credits)


Students must earn 3 credits in each of the following subjects:


  • Economics 3 credit(s)
  • Sociology 3 credit(s)

Two semesters in the same foreign language


American Sign Language does not fulfill this requirement.
