The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MAT ESOL) at Siena University prepares future educators for initial New York State certification in ESOL, Grades K-12. Designed for aspiring teachers and career changers, the program combines online coursework with 100 hours of practicum experience and a yearlong teaching residency. Students gain expertise in language development, curriculum design, literacy instruction, and assessment methods while building confidence through real classroom practice. The MAT ESOL can be completed in 1.5 to 2 years and is offered in a flexible, 100% online format.
A minimum of 12 undergraduate credits in a world language (or) demonstrated proficiency. Students may be admitted to the program with 6 undergraduate credits in a world language.
