CHEM - 210. Organic Chemistry IThree hours of lecture and four hours of laboratory each week. 4 credit(s) An introduction to the chemistry of carbon compounds, including the study of bonding, structure, nomenclature, physical and spectroscopic properties, methods of preparation, and reactivity of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, and alcohols. Separation and purification techniques are stressed in the laboratory and reaction products are analyzed by spectroscopic and chromatographic methods, including GC, HPLC, FTIR, and FT-NMR. Lab fee.
