EDUC - 645. Curriculum Studies for Transformative Education

This course involves a critical exploration of the evolution of and current issues related to curriculum theory and design. Topics include history of curriculum design, global and national trends in education; questions about what should be taught in schools and who should decide; and the intersection of politics, economics, and social influences. Course objectives include establishing an advanced understanding of curriculum design, analyzing trends and influences on curriculum, analyzing specific policies and their implications for teaching and learning, applying design principles in order to explore transformative learning experiences for diverse students, and using design principles to advocate for rigorous, culturally responsive-sustaining pedagogies.
