SCIE - 575. Understanding the NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards 3 credit(s) This course will give students an opportunity to dig deeply into the NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards. These standards provide a series of performance expectations that define what students should understand and be able to do as a result of their study of science. The New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards are based on the Framework for K-12 Science Education developed by the National Research Council and the Next Generation Science Standards. We will examine the three dimensions embedded in the architecture of the standards-Crosscutting Concepts, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Science & Engineering Practices. With a deeper understanding of the standards, students will learn to use the framework in their lesson planning. As the name implies, the standards provide a framework for all levels from P-12; this course will focus primarily on the Middle Level and High School Level standards.
Note: Restricted to students in the Master of Arts in Teaching program.
