EDUC - 541. Essential Reading Literacy

Essential Reading Literacy focuses on a teacher-centered exposure to the basic concepts, skills, and contexts for teaching reading in secondary classrooms. Teachers of the 21st century face many challenges, including the large spectrum of reading abilities in their classrooms. Graduate students will be exposed to the concept of adolescent literacy and basic principles of teaching it, including reading habits, skills, extensive knowledge of the reading process, and the development of a repertoire of strategies and skills to help influence and improve the teaching of reading in all classrooms across all disciplines.
