HIST - 236. American Immigration in Historical Perspective 3 credit(s) A study of the historical movement of peoples from around the world to the United States within the context of global political and economic changes that emphasizes transnational connections and the complex history of race, citizenship, and intercultural relations. Rooted in the Franciscan concern for the dignity of the person, this course challenges students to understand the history of the American experience from the perspective of immigrants, an historically marginalized people. It further asks students to apply their knowledge of history and the immigrant experience to improve immigration policies that reflect national appreciation for diverse perspectives, people, and ideas.
