CREA - 232. Madonnas to Modernists 3 credit(s) This course surveys the canon of art history from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries - a group of artworks that are widely recognized as of enduring importance in human history. Some, like Michelangelo’s Sistine Ceiling, are outstanding in their own right; others are examples of significant types, e.g. landscape paintings. All are studied with respect to the culture in which they were produced, and upon which they exerted influences. Included will be Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, the Impressionists, architecture such as Versailles and the Taj Mahal, as well as the major developments of the modern world.
