Substance use disorder is a problematic pattern of substance use that affects health and well-being. The course will explore a range of legal and illegal substances using a culturally responsive social work perspective. Learn how a range of substances are perceived by society and how that perception changes overtime and/or who is using. Identify what factors lead people to use/misuse substances and assess the range of treatment approaches related to the substance, personal history and life stage. Discover how policies have evolved to address various substances, and the racist and oppressive underpinnings of these policies.
